European Parliament: AVC at "A Europe of Diasporas Conference” in Brussels 05/02/2016
On May 2, 2016, the coalition of Armenian, Assyrian, Jewish, and Roma Diasporas met in Brussels to rediscover and value the diasporas in Europe and promote exchange, cooperation and joint advocacy among them. AGBU Europe played an active role in this unique conference along with many activists, academics and organizations. The conference featured education as one of the four discussion panels emphasizing the importance to learn history, heritage and mother tongue for diasporas. The Founder of Armenian Virtual College, Dr. Yervant Zorian, presented at the education session on how to meet diasporas' educational needs. Using AVC’s unique educational role in preserving the Armenian identity within the Armenian Diaspora, he stated, “To maintain the national identity in each diaspora, we should fully leverage the critical role of online education. We have been educating generations of Armenians in Armenian language, culture and history by incorporating technology in education together with the commitment to keep our national identity.” Dr. Zorian shared AVC’s wide experience in working with the Armenian diaspora. The conference summarized the critical importance of education for the diasporas of today’s Europe.
